Go All-Digital

Supporting the global environment we supply all software as digital downloads only. How can you participate?

We all can be part of the solution. Digital downloads are the "green" answer to demanding fewer resources for your computer's needs. What you get is software with an environmental footprint of zero while still staying up-to-date.

Digital downloads are one part of the larger trend in making our lives - both professional and personal - cleaner, more efficient, and better. Continue reading to see what else you can do to improve your green computing.

Limit screen-saver use. A screen saver does not save energy. In fact, more often than not, a screen saver not only will draw power for the monitor, but also will keep the CPU from shutting down. Instead, set your computer to turn off the monitor first, then go into standby mode after a longer period of inactivity.

Disconnect your Virtual Private Network (VPN) when not actively using your corporate network. Being connected may limit your system's ability to enter standby mode.

Many popular computer games and other third party software packages that run in the background will not allow the computer to go to sleep - even if they are paused or the active window is minimized.

Some web sites or pages that have active banners and or animated advertisements will not allow the computer to sleep on its own and must be closed, or the computer put manually into a sleep state.

Enabled power management to place your monitor, hard drives and computer into a low-power "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity.

Monitor/display sleep: Turn off after 15 minutes or less

Turn off hard drives/hard disk sleep: 15 minutes or less

System standby/sleep: After 30 minutes or less

Advanced users may wish to establish multiple power schemes to address different usage models. For example, you can create a power scheme for playing music CDs that shuts off your hard drive and monitor immediately, but never puts your system into standby mode.

To further reduce power consumption, turn off computing and peripheral devices that are not being used or being used for an extended period of time such as overnight.

Plug all your electronics into one surge protector, so you can easily switch them all off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Most power supplies (such as your cell phone charger) continue to draw power and generate heat even when not attached to a device.

Access CAD and GIS data to apply to 3D models

Use comprehensive gas, water, wastewater, and electric industry data models to more easily organize disparate asset information and apply industry standards and business requirements.

GIS analysis and planning tools

Analysis tools Answer questions and make better decisions about your data with support from GIS analysis and planning tools. Features and functionality make visualization and evaluation of design and geospatial information easier. Link information in vector and tabular formats together; perform data queries; create thematic maps; build topologies; create reports; perform buffer, tracing, and overlay analysis.
Coordinate systems and geolocation Commercial basemap and geolocation tools lets you bring in aerial data, roads, and hybrid aerial-road maps. Geocode and reverse geocode points based on address, capture and incorporate data from aerial photography, and convert to vector data.
Create coordinate systems (enhanced) Search for or create coordinate systems using custom grid files, and use modern algorithms for transforming coordinate systems. Work with more than 4,000 real-world coordinate systems, or define and manage your own custom coordinate system. New coordinate system definitions are available in real time, increasing the flexibility of working with different coordinate systems when managing your infrastructure.
Create and edit symbols Import common public-domain symbols into a mapping environment and edit them to meet specific requirements.
Dynamic tooltips and links Roll over a feature to display properties, such as tooltips and links.

Industry data modeling and management

Data management tools (enhanced) Manage spatial data in almost any format and use out-of-the-box industry models available for both stand-alone and enterprise environments. Create and modify your own data models more quickly and easily using powerful data modeling tools. Move and convert data from one data store to another. More easily manage the very large, job-enabled databases required by large owners and operators of infrastructure data.
Access industry models in more formats (enhanced) Access industry models in Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle systems. With the enhanced FDO provider, you can work with enterprise industry models on SQL Server as you would Oracle systems. Directly edit network models stored in ArcSDE 10.2, utilizing additional support functionality.
Workflows and feature rules Using the Microsoft Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), it is easier to automate repetitive tasks. Build, save, and share simple and complex workflows with a visual editor. Facilitate more accurate data updates by using custom feature rules and workflows for industry models.
Convert data to intelligent industry models (enhanced) Create and manage intelligent industry models by converting GIS and CAD data. Populate a new industry model from FDO data sources or DWG files and map feature classes and attributes. Then, convert the data to a model and save the database as a DWG/DWT file for use in future projects. Convert existing CAD and GIS, AutoCAD software data, and other GIS data sets.
Configure linear referencing systems Develop a linear referencing system (LRS) application, such as a rail or transportation module. Within your new industry model, define the LRS based on existing assets and line segments. Then, include a prefix for your LRS, helping to specify the feature classes in your system. After you define new custom feature classes, configure the LRS by adding asset relationships. Then, open and manage a road or railway LRS template.
Industry model analysis Use connectivity information built into the industry models to identify connected facilities or analyze the impact of actions on your infrastructure.

Publishing and interoperability

Take industry model data offline With offline editing and synchronization, users can check out industry model data to work locally in the field or with other software. Extract data in queued edit mode and bring it into the design process using AutoCAD Utility Design software, or share it with workers in the field who use Infrastructure Map Server software. When your work is complete, sync and merge the data back into the industry model.
Desktop to web to A360 Store AutoCAD software drawings, project files, and map drawing files in an easy-to-access online workspace using A360. View and edit your designs online or on your mobile device, and share and collaborate easily with others. The AutoCAD WS web and mobile application for AutoCAD enables you to view, edit, and share DWG drawings and GIS maps online using A360.
Publish directly to the web Distribute your geospatial data, designs, and GIS maps online in ways that meet your organization's needs. Publish to the Internet using the Infrastructure Map Server application. Or distribute drawings as individual georeferenced DWF files, multisheet DWF map books, or paper plots. Also, you can publish a single DWG or multiple drawing files into a single map definition.
Interoperate with AutoCAD and GIS software Read, write, and convert data between widely used formats. Widely used formats include:
Data exchange with 3D planning/design tools Use the same data for conceptual modeling in 3D environments to make intelligent, model-based designs for civil and utility distribution projects. Share data more easily with Infraworks, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Utility Design software.
Dynamic legends, north arrows, and scale bars Improve public view documents, such as maps and exhibits, with north arrows, scale bars, dynamic legends, and more viewports within the exhibit.
Grids, graticules, and map books Create and publish maps based on U.S. National Grid (USNG) standards, latitude and longitude grids, and more criteria.

Topographical data access and editing

Topographical data directly from the source (enhanced) Gain direct access to GIS data from many spatial and topographical data sources using open-source Feature Data Object (FDO) technology. Data sources include ESRIfiles and managed geo-databases, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostGIS, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and MySQL.
Data access and management Enhanced Microsoft Excel spreadsheet capabilities enable you to join attribute and GIS data and edit the Excel data stored inside AutoCAD Map 3D. Additionally, improved spatial database tools enable you to store and use multiple geometric representations of your infrastructure assets, giving you the flexibility to choose the geometry that best suits your deliverable requirements.
